Loro Piana explores the variety of vibrant hues shaped by its legacy of excellence in yarn and fabric-making. Its history reflects a passion for innovation and the transformation of fine raw materials into exquisite and functional yarns.
Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Knit Design Award, the theme invites designers to approach colour perception through unique mélange and mouliné cashmere creations, exploring the metamorphic power of technology to highlight colour. The challenge is to craft a convertible garment or silhouette that embodies this evolution.
The House has been on a constant quest for new forms and applications, guided by a commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and innovation. The schools have the opportunity to play with colours and define their own unique palette through evocative shades.

Each school can develop its own yarns, with access to a selection of innovative fibres and materials for experimentation, bringing light into their project. The objective is to explore depth, complexity, and effects to enhance colour perception and create transformable designs.

The final design must be a convertible garment or look, demonstrating both physical and visual transformation. Through careful experimentation with stitches, textures, light, and colour, the creation should reveal unexpected effects and convey innovation, creativity, and a sense of discovery.

The iconic CASHMERE 2/28, in pure Top China®cashmere, from remote regions where goats produce the softest duvet, arrives to our factories where the fiber is transformed into precious yarns. The cashmere 2/27, the carded par excellence, is soft and voluminous, perfect for a classic and comfortable knitwear. The autumn winter season is enriched with a new color palette. Distant landscape typical colours come alive and become a ton sur ton melange, delicate pastel shades, brighter in red and purple nuances.
The COARSEHAIR is an iconic yarn, already used for years. It appears slightly hairy with a soft and comfortable touch. It is a cashmere with a higher micron for a perfect combination of elegance and versatility, ideal for casual items and sporty allure.
Multicolour shades made of this fiber enhance its appearance and give to the final product a Shetland sweater characteristic, but with the Loro Piana softness.
Crafted by twisting three plies of 1/11 coarsehair, this refined mouliné yarn combines three mélange strands to create a rich texture. Contrasting colours offer a distinctive look, while tone-on-tone shades express subtle elegance. Versatile and sophisticated, it lends itself well to knitwear for every occasion.
This timeless, subtly rustic yarn takes inspiration from the wild natural landscapes of the county Donegal. Our classic coarsehair is enriched with colourful knops in contrasting shades, adding a contemporary touch to a traditional yarn.
Supercashmere is a very fine yarn crafted from pure cashmere Top China® (selected for its exceptional finesse and length characteristics). Very thin and soft, in 100% combed cashmere recognised for perfect regularity and high strength.
Royal is a worsted yarn, combining Top China® cashmere (selected for the exceptional characteristics of finesse and length) with 30% of silk in an intimate blend that gives to this classic yarn shine and slipperiness without compare. Very thin and soft, it is suitable for classic knitwear and lends lasting comfort. Its lightness makes each garment sit like a second-skin layer.
Maltinto is a woollen yarn with an irregular tone-on-tone striping effect, akin to a printed yarn. It is achieved by twisting 1/27 cashmere – partially SS-treated and partially raw white. During dyeing, this blend creates refined light-dark contrasts, especially in medium and dark tones.
